Three main areas are available for recreational sport fishing within easy reach of Tobermory; Aros Park, Mishnish Lochs, and Loch Frisa.  Click on the little map to see the position of Aros Park and the Mishnish Lochs.  Loch Frisa is beyond the Mishnish lochs and off the Dervaig road.

Mishnish Lochs

Those Lochs hold Brown Trout only, up to 4lbs, and are stocked every two years with 5 inch fish. the fish grow quickly, owing to the abundant food supply and are good fighters.  
The fish are very good to eat, being pink fleshed and very tasty.  
The season for this Loch is from 1st. April to 31st. September.  
No spinners are allowed on the Mishnish Lochs

The Mishnish Lochs

The best months for fishing are probably May, June and September. 

Flies sized 10 and 12 are most successful, with Butcher, Teal and Green, Soldier Palmer, Grouse and Claret being popular patterns.

Aros Loch

The Loch is in the Forestry Park of Aros and provides good fishing for Rainbow Trout only.  Aros Park is an exceptionally good and sheltered venue for inclement weather.  For more general information on the park, click here
Fishing is from the bank only.  One rod per person.

MISHNISH LOCHS & AROS LAKE Charges
  • Bank permits £10.00 per day. £30.00 per week. 
  • Boat hire (in addition to permit)  £5.00 for 4 hours.  £12.00 for all day.
  • Hours for boats:  10am. to 2pm.  and  2pm. to 6pm.  and  6pm. to 10pm.
  • NOTE:
  • Maximum of two people per boat
  • Minimum age for hiring is 16
  • Lifejackets available
  • No outboards
