At the 2004 Tobermory Games a new event was held for the first
time. A picture competition for the under-twelves was run at the
Clan Maclean Association Tent and was well received well by the
younger visitors. In fact, demand actually outstripped the display
space available. All the contestants received a prize and the
standard of entry was very high. The subject for the pictures was
the Games themselves and as you can see the imagination of the
contestants ran far and wide. Personally I liked the picture of
the Tiger by Alexander Gabrielides Aged 8. Some people said they
couldn’t see a tiger at the games but of course, that’s the whole
point of camouflage isn’t it?
As I mentioned, everybody got a small prize but there were special
prizes (Frisbees, Bubbles and a Flying Bug Gun) given to a number
of artists for their excellent work. These were (in no particular
order):
* Patrick Fordham Aged 11
* Alexandra Davies Aged 8
* Asha Aged 3
* Tom Lynas Aged 10
* Niomi Sweeney Aged 4
* Jack Nelson Aged 2
I like to thank Sir Lachlan Maclean and the Association for their
support and space provided for the pictures. I’d also like to
thank Michelle McLean for all her hard work and organisational
skills and of course, all the artists who contributed and made the
day go with a bang. Well done all, see you next year.
