The non-members offer a service which is comparable to the Visit Scotland members. Standards generally are very good and improving all the time as the demand for quality increases.

Whether it’s sleeping between the finest linen sheets in a four-star establishment or watching the fabulous Mull sunsets from your B&B or campsite, Tobermory has accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets.

While you can find places to stay year-round, it is a good idea to book ahead during the busy summer months, especially as there is no longer a Visit Scotland Tourist Office in Tobermory.  If you’re travelling as a family, don’t forget to ask about children’s discounts, which are sometimes available.

GRADING
A good proportion of the accommodation in Tobermory and on the Isle of Mull is graded by the Scottish Tourist Board.  The Board works on a 'Star' system with a one to five rating.  5 Star is 'Excellent' or 'World Class'.  Mull boasts many providers at the 'top end' of the grading system  We have a 5 Star Campsite at 'The Shielings' in Craignure and a 5 Star Self catering at Glengorm Castle not to mention a large number of 4 Star accommodation with some people offering a range of cottages.  Standards generally are very good and improving all the time as the demand for quality increases.

CAMPING
Mull has three main campsites on the island at Craignure, Balmeanach and Tobermory.  Two more informal sites are situated at Killiechronan and Fidden on the Ross of Mull.  Informal camping on the island is not a problem, provided the land owners permission is granted.

SELF CATERING in the UK means that the property, normally a cottage, house, or bungalow, is completely self contained.  'Self Contained' is the description used in the southern hemisphere, 'Vacation Rental' is the phrase used in North America.

GUEST HOUSE has all sorts of connotations, particularly if you come from the States.  In the UK Guest House generally means providers that are not quite a Hotel but more like a bed and breakfast in their approach but having more than two letting bedrooms. Normally, also, they may provide an evening meal.  Most bed and breakfasts have a 'closed time' during the day but Guest Houses tend to be more flexible.
