How Our Guide Might Help You:
If you’re thinking of visiting Mull
we hope our Guide will give you ideas. Simply glance at the
maps and skim through the pages. They deal with getting to
Mull, exploring the area, and then travelling on
across
Scotland.
There are special sections for walkers, cyclists and wildlife
tourists, notes for drivers and an almost endless choice of
routes by public transport.
If you’re arriving off a mainland ferry
our central pages show your choice of connecting services &
tours. These and the following pages also list your travel
options from our villages.
If you want to plan a journey
all main routes and times are here.
Find the maps page , contents
or index (p23) or follow our cross references. Services
linking Glasgow with Tobermory and Iona are summarised on the
back cover.
If
you seek miscellaneous travel information (eg. on concessionary fares, hiring a car, or
help if you’re disabled) see page 22; and our last page tells
you where you’ll find out more.
Our timetable pages are in pairs so please check facing pages
for complementary information.
Can the Guide be Used All Year?
This guide is revised in spring and autumn when
local bus and boat times change but we realise you may want to
plan ahead – so both editions can be used all year. Summer
trips are always listed, but marked as seasonal. The basic
services run at similar times in summer and winter, although
they may vary in frequency or days of operation. So even a
timetable which will have expired can help you plan your
journey - provided you check before travelling.
To
add interest to your journey we suggest sights to watch for on
the way and some walks you might make from our routes.
Some Necessary Warnings:
Island travel can mean several connections –
please check every link runs on the day you require – and
tell your driver or other employee you want the connection.
We have striven to be accurate but this can only be a guide.
We’re sure you’ll appreciate that neither we nor the Council
can be liable for any inconvenience, expense or worse arising
on your travels. So if your journey is important please
confirm your times with the operators before you travel.
Let’s
give a toot for all the local residents who helped produce
this Guide.
We get holidays too!

Bookings and Fares
You can book from most of
Britain
to Oban by coach or train: but must pay separately for each
portion of journey thereafter. You must pay before joining a
train, an Oban-Craignure ferry, or an Iona ferry in summer.
You can reserve free if you pay in advance for a Citylink
coach, but can also pay on board. On other services you
only pay on board. You can only reserve for passengers or
cars on scheduled services as shown (but must normally
reserve for tours). We strongly advise you to reserve cars
from Oban – travel tickets are no help.
We’re sorry we can’t quote prices here - please see p 22
