Mull Aquarium

Tobermory is home to Mull Aquarium. Opened in 2015 this fantastic family attraction is unique as it is Europe’ s first catch-and-release aquarium. This is a modern and sustainable approach to an aquarium, where the creatures stay for a maximum of 4 weeks before they are returned to the sea, right where they came from. This practice minimizes the impact to the environment as well as keeping the displays different every month.

The aquarium not only houses 13 tanks, containing more than 60 species, but it has lots of information about local history and navigation, lighthouses and wildlife. There are plenty of interactive displays as well, from a virtual dive of Loch Sunart, to the new sandbox showing colour-changing contour lines.

Touch pool sessions are every hour during the summer season, giving children, and any adults too of course, the chance to hold the sea creatures. There is also a digital cinema room, showing short wildlife films and other films of local interest daily.

The Marine Centre Manager, and volunteer assistants, will be only too pleased to show you around and answer any questions.

Open from Easter to the end of October. There is a small entrance fee.
